BBSI Academic Summary

BBSI is open throughout the year and provides a learning environment with a correct balance in emphasis between training ethos and social atmosphere. Trainees are encouraged to take responsibility for their own development and self-motivation is high, which engenders rapid progress in professional skills and the acquisition of accurate and fluent English-language communication skills. Training methods are functional and practical, our courses are of sound structure and content, and we employ a wide range of effective teaching methods to suit different types of learner. Interactive techniques, for example, stimulate interest, inspire motivation, increase the efficiency of the learning process and achieve the highest possible levels of retention. Our aim is to make the UK learning experience as enjoyable as possible, while also structuring our courses so that the learning process is both efficient and effective.

Throughout their time at BBSI, students are provided with every opportunity to achieve their individual educational and professional goals. For example, each BBSI course contains some or all of the following elements:

  • English-language development and skills practice
  • functional, everyday social and professional communication skills
  • management and business skills
  • specialised academic and professional training
  • computing and IT training
  • preparation for internationally recognised academic and professional examinations
  • individual study skills development

Academic Coordination. As would be expected in a business school with ISO 9001 accreditation, academic management standards are extremely high. All training programmes are supervised personally by the Director of Studies and the training coordinators. In addition, individuals are allocated a personal tutor who is responsible for the following:

  • coordination of students' work with other teachers
  • marking and assessing assignments
  • supervision of individual academic progress
  • monitoring of attendance and performance
  • regular, individual consultation with students
  • liaison with administrative and welfare staff
  •  coordination of reports

Academic Staff. BBSI employs full-time tutors, part-time tutors and freelance specialist consultants. All tutors are professionally qualified with either a first degree, or a diploma or certificate qualification in ELT. All tutors undergo regular continuation training and development.

Academic Timetable. All study periods are of 90 minutes' duration and comprise blocks of 2 forty-five minute lessons at set periods throughout the day. Students are, however, expected to optimise their learning experience by utilising the extensive BBSI extra-curricular IT and multi-media facilities.
