Summer Course in Management & Business Skills




BBSI, a highly accredited Business College and English Language School in the UK, offers a short, summer certificate course in Management & Business Skills with English, which is conducted at our Summer School in Bournemouth, UK. The course can be studied for between 2-12 weeks and is available in 2 study options: a programme of 20 lessons weekly (MAN 20) and a study programme of 30 lessons weekly (MAN 30). Both study options are designed for those international students with an English language level of Intermediate or above, who require to study a combination of management training and business English skills, combined with a busy social and activity programme.

Both the MAN 20 and MAN 30 courses are modular in form and are ideal, in both structure and content, for those who need English language communication skills in an international management and business environment, and who have a work or study-related background in management, business or administration. The course can be joined on any Monday during the period June-September annually and the maximum class size is 15.

Students take an English test on arrival at BBSI, and are then counselled in respect of their study programme, prior to being placed in international classes at an English language level to suit their needs. The course is carefully designed to enable students at an Intermediate Level in English or above to gain a business qualification; moreover, those studying the full 12 week study programme, gain an additional certificate award from the NCFE national awarding body, plus partial accreditation (optional) towards the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Certificate in Management†, an externally-accredited professional management qualification.

MAN 20 Study Option

The MAN 20 course comprises 20 lessons weekly and focuses on developing sound skills in business English and management. The course, conducted at our Summer School in Bournemouth, is designed to enable students to develop appropriate business vocabulary and professional skills, and combines current management issues with targeted business case studies. Teaching materials are varied, are mainly authentic, and include audio and video facilities.

Course Objectives. The course objectives are to:

On completion of the course, participants will have enhanced their basic knowledge of international business and management, and will have developed their ability to use English language effectively in a professional, business and social context. In addition, students will have developed an extensive range of professional communication skills.

This additional skills component is designed to enable participants to practice extensively their business English communication skills through active participation in such activities as discussions, simulations and role-play. Teaching materials are varied, are mainly authentic, and include audio and video facilities.

† Chartered Management Institute (CMI)

The Chartered Management Institute is the largest professional management institute in Europe. BBSI is an Approved Training Centre for CMI and, as such, offers the CMI Certificate in Management (Level 3) qualification. Trainees can achieve either the full award, or, where time is limited, partial accreditation for those modules successfully completed. The CMI elements are externally accredited to the rigorous standards of the Chartered Institute and are assessed by means of course work standards, attendance and fortnightly assignments.

The 8 units required for the CMI Certificate in Management are incorporated in modular format within the BBSI Management syllabus. Normally, a minimum study period of 24 weeks is required to complete all 8 CMI modules; however, students studying for lesser periods can achieve partial accreditation depending upon the number of CMI assignments successfully completed. These qualifications are widely accepted by international employers and by major British universities.
