Summer Course in Finance & Business Skills


The BBSI summer course Finance & Business Skills (FBS) with English is an intensive summer course conducted at our Summer School in Bournemouth, England. 
 
The BBSI summer course in Finance & Business Skills comprises a study programme of 30 lessons (22.5 hours) weekly.  The course is designed for those with a minimum English language level equivalent to IELTS [Academic] 5.5/CEFR B2, who wish to improve their financial English and business skills.  Training focuses on developing students understanding of financial concepts, vocabulary and skills, as well as professional communication skills.  The course combines current finance and business issues with targeted case studies.  This course also includes 10 lessons per week in professional skills practice, aimed at developing more effective communication skills for the business environment.  The teaching materials for the skills elements are largely authentic and are based on real-life case studies, designed to build confidence through activities such as discussions, role-plays and simulations.  Participants with good attendance who complete all class work and assignments will be able to communicate effectively in English in a professional finance and business environment, and will acquire a sound knowledge and understanding of finance, economics and financial services in an international context.
 
Professional Qualifications.  BBSI is an Accredited Examination Centre for the University of Cambridge ESOL International Certificate in Financial English (ICFE)+ .  Our summer course in Finance & Business Skills includes preparation for the ICFE examination within the syllabus.  For students intending in the future to undertake the ICFE examination, however, we recommend a minimum of 12 weeks' preparation prior to their examination date.

Course Duration.   2-12 weeks.

Minimum English-Language Entry Level.  IELTS 5.5/CEFR B2.

Course Code.  FBS.

Course Entry Dates.  Entry to this flexible course is weekly from July to September. The first entry date for 2012 is 2 July and the last entry date is 10 September.
 
Minimum Age.  17 years.
Award.  Academic achievement is ascertained by means of continuous assessment

Course Structure & Content.  A minimum of 2 weeks' study is required, comprising 30, forty-five minute lessons (22.5 hours weekly).  Course breakdown is as follows:

 

      *  20 lessons weekly in Finance.

      *  10 lessons weekly in Business Skills.

Course Objectives.  The course objectives are to:
            *   Develop English-language communication skills relevant to the financial sector.
            *   Build appropriate vocabulary in the fields of finance & economics.
            *   Develop an understanding of finance, economics & financial services.
            *   Develop understanding of theory & practice within the financial sector.
            *   Provide a practical business communication skills programme relevant to the 
                     modern working environment.

+  Examination fess for external examinations are not included in the BBSI course fees.
BBSI courses are carefully designed and structured at different language levels to enable international students to develop all 4 English language skills simultaneously, while developing their professional communication skills and professional knowledge in academic, vocational or professional context, in the specialised subject of their choice. Students therefore have the flexibility to focus on either academic or vocational progression, depending on their personal training needs and particular learning objectives.
