This is English Study short courses in English in the UK during the summer months, July-September. BBSI is one of the most accredited business colleges and English schools in the UK. Based in Bournemouth, on the south coast of England, BBSI offers a short summer course in Academic English with IELTS Examination Preparation.
To provide maximum flexibility, our summer courses are structured so that students can join or leave their courses at any time. The aim of this course is to enable students to study English in the UK and develop all 4 English language skills, specifically, their knowledge of English grammar, English vocabulary and spoken English language. The course can be studied for periods of between 4 and 12 weeks and is specifically designed for students with a minimum English language level of Intermediate, who need to prepare academically for an IELTS examination prior to a course of study at a UK university or UK college. The course can be joined on any Monday during the period June-September annually.
The course comprises 30 English lessons weekly: 20 lessons in English language, plus 10 lessons of IELTS examination preparation and academic-skills practice. The study programme provides considerable variety, serves to extend English vocabulary, develops general English-language communication skills and builds confidence through active participation in discussions, role-play and conversational English.
IELTS Examination Preparation. IELTS is the International English Language Testing System. It measures ability to communicate in English across all 4 language skills - listening, reading, writing and speaking - for people who intend to study or work where English is the language of communication. IELTS is the preferred English language assessment for universities in English-speaking countries worldwide. Examinations take place monthly in Bournemouth and a place can be secured at the time of booking your course with BBSI. Candidates must book for the examination at least 6 weeks before each examination sitting. Our course focuses on all 4 English language skills, with structured development and practice, so that students can approach the IELTS examination with confidence.
Academic Study Skills. Students require sound academic study skills when preparing for further study, whether for professional or vocational training programmes, or for further study at a UK college or university. BBSI therefore includes academic study skills within the IELTS examination preparation elements of this course and the topics and skills covered include the following:
- effective writing ability
- listening comprehension & note-taking
- ability to transfer information in note form to essay format
- understanding the conventions of bibliographies, footnotes & quotations
- classroom, self-study & personal organisational skills
- effective reading-comprehension
Students are tested and interviewed on arrival at BBSI and are then placed in an international class at a language level to suit their needs. The training methods are functional and practical, and a wide range of effective teaching methods is utilised to suit different types of learner. Our interactive techniques stimulate interest, inspire motivation, increase the efficiency of the learning process and achieve the highest possible levels of retention. The course is conducted around a busy social and activity programme and the maximum class size is 15.
