Specialised Certificate Course in Management & Business Administration


Bournemouth Business School International (BBSI), our highly-accredited Business School and English Language College in England, offers international students the opportunity to study English in England while also studying the concepts and learning the skills required for careers in management and business. 

The BBSI Certificate study option is designed for students with an English language level equivalent to IELTS 5.5/CEFR B2.  This 4 to 23-week course enables participants to both develop their business and professional skills to a level of proficiency, and to build their English language communication skills.  The course leads to a BBSI Certificate in Management & Business Administration.  Students will also have the opportunity to acquire awards for those modules of the CMI Diploma in First-Line Management covered during their course, and to prepare for an English or business English examination. 

Professional Qualifications.  BBSI is an Approved Training Centre for the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) .  Our Higher-Certificate and Diploma study options cover the full syllabus for the CMI Level 3 Diploma, ie 8 CMI First-Line Management modules. Successful students can opt to acquire a full external, professional CMI qualification.

Additional English and Business English QualificationsStudents will also have the option to prepare for up to 3 different University of Cambridge ESOL examinations: the First Certificate in English (FCE) , the Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) , or the Business English Certificate (BEC) .  Students wishing to take one of these examinations are recommended to study for a full 12 weeks prior to the examination, to maximise their chances of success.  Alternatively, participants can opt to join our ongoing weekly English Language Workshop (ELW) at a language level to suit their needs.

Course Duration.  4-23 weeks.
Minimum English-Language Entry Level. IELTS 5.5/CEFR B2.

Main Course Entry Dates.  Sep, Jan, Apr or Jul; however, flexible entry dates are available for these
Minimum Age. 17 years
Awards.  Academic achievement is ascertained by means of continuous assessment.
 
      BBSI Certificate in Management & Business Administration
Optional External Examinations.  Additional examination fees apply.  CMI academic achievement is assessed by means of course work and assignment standards, as well as attendance.

      CMI Award in First-Line Management
 
      University of Cambridge FCE (examination dates)
      University of Cambridge CAE (examination dates)
      University of Cambridge BEC (examination dates)
Course Structure & Content.  A minimum of 4 weeks' study is required, comprising 30, forty-five minute lessons (22.5 hours total) weekly.  The number of CMI management modules completed would depend upon the number of weeks studied.  For example, the full 12-week Certificate course comprises 4 CMI management modules.  Course breakdown is as follows:
 
      20 lessons weekly in Management & Business Administration 
             (includes 4 CMI management modules)
      
10 lessons weekly in English Language 
             (selected from one of the following options):
                   * preparation for the University of Cambridge FCE 
                   * preparation for the University of Cambridge CAE
                   * preparation for the University of Cambridge BEC
                   *
English Language Workshop (ELW)
Course Syllabus. Students seeking to start a 12 week Certificate course in January or July would follow Weeks 13-24, whilst those commencing the same course in either September or April would study Weeks 25-36.  Those wishing to study for shorter/longer periods should contact BBSI to confirm the course syllabus for their study.
