BBSI is one of the most highly-accredited UK language schools. We offer international students the opportunity to study English in the UK, and provide the education facilities for students to acquire important academic English qualifications. Our Academic English & IELTS course comprises 30 lessons weekly and is modular in format so that you can join the course at any time throughout the year and study for periods that suit your personal circumstances. The course is available to those students who have an Intermediate level in English or above, who require an internationally-recognised English language qualification to prove their academic English language ability to universities, colleges of further education or future employers. The course can be joined on most Mondays throughout the year, has a maximum class size of 12, which can be extended to 15 during the summer months, July-September, and can be studied for a period of between 4 and 48 weeks. The course syllabus includes extensive IELTS Preparation and Academic Study Skills.
IELTS Examination Preparation. IELTS is the International English Language Testing System. It measures ability to communicate in English across all 4 language skills – listening, reading, writing and speaking – for people who intend to study or work where English is the language of communication. IELTS is the preferred English language assessment for universities in English-speaking countries worldwide. Examinations take place monthly in Bournemouth and a place can be secured at the time of booking your course with BBSI. Candidates must book for the examination at least 6 weeks before each examination sitting.
Academic Study Skills. Students require sound academic study skills when preparing for further study, whether for professional or vocational training programmes, or for further study at a UK college or university. BBSI therefore includes academic study skills within the IELTS examination preparation elements of this course and the topics and skills covered include the following:
- effective writing ability
- listening comprehension & note-taking
- ability to transfer information in note form to essay format
- classroom, self-study & personal organisational skills
- effective reading comprehension
Students are tested and interviewed on arrival at BBSI and are then placed in an international class at a language level to suit your needs. The training methods are functional and practical, and a wide range of effective teaching methods is utilised to suit different types of learner. Our interactive techniques stimulate interest, inspire motivation, increase the efficiency of the learning process and achieve the highest possible levels of retention. All course options are conducted around a busy social and activity programme.
