BBSI Supplementary Workshops

BBSI supplementary workshops are all designed to allow students to individualise their programmes by focusing on specific areas of their learning. They can dedicate additional time to building their writing skills, increase the amount of time they dedicate to IELTS examination practice, or ensure they achieve the required level of mathematical knowledge for Undergraduate or Post graduate study.

The workshops all comprise 4 lessons weekly and can be booked in conjunction with any of the BBSI training programmes, with the exception of the General English (40 lessons weekly) and the Academic English & IELTS Examination Preparation (40 lessons weekly) courses.

The following workshops are available:

WRITING SKILLS WORKSHOP

The BBSI Writing Skills Workshop provides students with an opportunity to develop their general writing skills to meet a wide range of needs. The sessions are an excellent way to raise standards in one particular skill area; however, they will also benefit all-round language skills.

The workshops will cover all aspects of the written word in English, including the following:

* handwriting * spelling

* layout & presentation * sentence structure

* punctuation * linking sentences

* formal & informal styles * researching information

* presenting your own ideas * abbreviations & note-taking

* summary writing * drafting, checking & proof-reading

* word-building & word families (prefixes & suffixes)

IELTS EXAMINATION PRACTICE WORKSHOP

The BBSI IELTS Examination Practice Workshop provides students with an opportunity to develop their IELTS examination techniques in preparation for the IELTS examination, and are an excellent way to gain intensive practice of all 4 skills before taking the IELTS examination.

The workshops will cover the following:

*   IELTS listening paper practice
    Key skills include:
        - identifying gist & detail in audio texts

*   IELTS reading paper practice
    Key skills include:
      - reading for gist & details in academic texts
      - skimming & scanning for information in reading texts

*   IELTS writing paper practice
     Key skills include
      - task 1 writing: describing statistical information
      - task 2 writing: discusive essay practice

*   IELTS speaking paper practice
     Key skills include
      - speaking for fluency & accuracy
      - maximising examination performance within IELTS time limits

MATHEMATICS WORKSHOP

The BBSI Mathematics Workshop provides students with an opportunity to improve and refresh both their mathematics and mathematical English. It is especially useful for those wanting to apply to UK Universities to study a course in which a knowledge of maths and statistics is essential. Therefore, students of finance, economics and engineering will find this workshop of great help in securing a good university place.

The workshops will cover the following:

        *   mathematical vocabulary                          *   describing motion
        *   angles, bearings & maps                           *   statistics & probability theory
        *   sequences & series                                     *   differentiation and integration
        *   2 & 3 dimensional geometry                     *   graphs of functions
        *   direct & inverse proportion                       *   inverse square laws
        *   applied mathematics
